Dear all,
2 common question I get from some of you here, then Twitter and also by banking current or former colleagues and peers is some variation like the following:
‘Which tools/data do you use for the independent investment research you do day in day out?’
‘What educational resources you use to keep learning and improving your research?’
Therefore, below covering both research/data tools and Educational resources which I glad to affiliate and partner with:
📊 Research tools: Koyfin (US based) and Finchat (Canada based)
📊 Education: Coursera
📊 Research tools
I have a vast and lengthy experience using many tools, including the very high end ones that cost $10,000 - $30,000/year in banking, brokerage and investment funds.
Hence, I did burn a lot of time search and compare alternative many tools that are out there, pros & cons, different costs, features and a key factor, future development plans.
Therefore, I believe one gets a lot of value with the following below 👇. Enjoy!
Koyfin, a great investment research & analytics platform! Equities & Macro focus.
You’ll see many of my charts are powered by Koyfin, a coverage with many use cases:
✍️ Maverick Charts - Stocks & Bonds - November 2023 Edition #13 ✍️
A decent free plan is also available to test, have a go at it and check the value you get!
FinChat, another great investment research & analytics platform! Equities focus!
You will also see many powered charts by FinChat, a coverage with many use cases:
✍️ Which Research Tools Do I Use? FAQ answered: AI powered investment research tool! ✍️
A decent free plan is also available to test, have a go at it and check the value you get!
FAQ: what is the difference between Koyfin and FinChat, which one is better? Both are very good research tools, I can say institutional level with many features! It will depend on your use cases, easiest is to just check my research & test yourself. I use them both & get a lot of value: saving time, charting & key insights = research!
I am also now exploring macro, exclusive databases and some sleek niche tools! Once and if I am convinced by the value they offer to me & likely yourself, I’ll update this post, hence check here sometimes or email me. I am just not the marketing/sales type to promote and shout everyday about anything, not even my work which I let it speak for itself, so yeah 😉.
If you own or manage a great product or good experiences as a user, just let me know.
📊 Education
I am a strong believer in lifelong learning for personal and professional development.
My top online educational platform that I have been using for 10 years is Coursera!
This dedicated article on it will give you a good sense of what is it offering:
📖 Education, a new section inside Maverick Equity Research
I will also share more of the courses I did, currently doing and also what I recommend.
Have a great day!

Thank you @Maverick for sharing the research tools. I have been hearing about Koyfin tools a lot and indeed they are challenging Bloomberg :-) . Although it is not the same as what you wrote, I also shared some of the data/sources non-investment professionals can use: https://marianneo.substack.com/p/what-do-investment-professionals - love to hear your feedback!
